Among the best restored ship tours out there, the effort and dedication of the volunteers really shows. This is not as much a museum ship, as it is a period-correct restoration. The Slater is an excellent representation of how a WWII era combat ship looked and felt, at the time of its service. The tour volunteer at the time of my visit really knew the ship, and genuinely enjoyed giving the tour. The high point for me was learning the original Captain of this ship had donated to the Slater the very same items he had in the cabin during WWII. If you're into US Navy and WWII history, this one is a real can't miss.
