I could post a review ten miles long about how amazing the Almondine Bakery is, and how scrumptious and stunning its creations are at the hands of French baker Herve Poussot (magician-in-charge) and his 24-carat gold crew. Of all the countless bakeries in New York, we had the spectacularly good fortune to find the perfect one to bring the wedding cake of our dreams to life.
My sister-in-law and I had stepped into the very busy but warm and welcoming bake shop to taste-test cakes after arranging an in-person appointment with Herve (he was always very responsive to e-mails). He met us right on time, spiral notepad in hand, ready to sketch images of the cake as I described my ideas - as well as demonstrate other potential creations. But all the sketching in the world could not prepare me for what was to come. After one bite (out-of-this-world delicious does not begin to describe it), I knew I had hit the jackpot. It was as if a boulangerie in Paris had transported itself to Brooklyn.
Having already gotten a price estimate - which was shockingly reasonable - I exclaimed just four words: "You've got the job!"
I subsequently e-mailed to Herve pictures of various wedding cakes, telling him which features of which cakes I wanted to incorporate into what would become my future hubby's and my wedding cake. To make things even more interesting, this was a destination wedding - so e-mails and clear communication were critically important.
How did it all turn out? The cake was gorgeous, heavenly-tasting, and delivered on time to our reception venue - with no charge for delivery since it was considered local to the Almondine Bakery.
Not that I ever plan to get married again, but if I did - it would be the Almondine Bakery, all the way. Fantastic!!
